Premier League leaders Arsenal are exploring a possible move for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, reports David Ornstein of The Athletic.
The north London club, looking to capture its first league title since 2004, is keen to add midfield depth ahead of Tuesday's transfer deadline.
Jorginho, 31, is out of contract this summer. Chelsea would sanction a January sale to avoid losing the Italian international for nothing, but the Blues will still demand a significant fee despite his contract status, reports transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
Arsenal's top midfield target remains Moises Caicedo, but the Gunners' second bid for the Ecuadorian dynamo, worth a total of £70 million, was swiftly rejected by Brighton & Hove Albion, according to Romano.
With time running out to bolster Mikel Arteta's squad, a move for Jorginho could prove easier to complete, especially if Chelsea are successful in their pursuit of Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine star would push Jorginho down the pecking order if he arrives at Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian-born Jorginho, who's won the Champions League, Europa League, and European Championship in recent years, would provide a veteran presence and title-winning experience for a young Arsenal squad aiming to hold off Manchester City in the second half of the season.
Arsenal currently have a five-point cushion over the reigning champions with one match in hand on Pep Guardiola's squad.
