Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren will miss the entire 2022-23 campaign due to a Lisfranc injury to his right foot, the team announced Thursday.
The No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft sustained the injury at the Crawsover Pro-Am event in Seattle this past weekend."Certainly, we are disappointed for Chet, especially given the excitement he had about getting on the floor with his teammates this season," Thunder general manager Sam Presti said in a statement. "We know Chet has a long career ahead of him within our organization and the Oklahoma City community."
Holmgren's injury leaves Oklahoma City relatively thin at the center position. Veteran big man Derrick Favors, Mike Muscala, and second-year pro Jeremiah Robinson-Earl will likely split minutes at the five.
Holmgren was expected to provide the Thunder with some much-needed rim protection and outside shooting. The Gonzaga standout averaged 3.7 blocks and shot nearly 40% from distance during his lone season in Spokane. He earned All-WCC first-team honors and was the conference's Defensive Player of the Year.
Oklahoma City finished 16th and 30th in blocks per game and 3-point percentage, respectively, during the 2021-22 season.
