The San Antonio Spurs are trading All-Star point guard Dejounte Murray to the Atlanta Hawks for veteran wing Danilo Gallinari and multiple first-round picks, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
San Antonio will receive a first-rounder in 2023 via the Charlotte Hornets, the Hawks' first-round picks in 2025 and 2027, and the option for a pick swap in 2026, Wojnarowski adds.Murray put together a breakout campaign in 2021-22, averaging 21.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 9.2 assists, and a league-leading 2.0 steals per game, netting him his first All-Star appearance.
The 25-year-old will now team up with fellow star guard Trae Young in Atlanta, forming one of the most potent backcourts in the NBA. Young and Murray ranked third and fourth, respectively, in assists per game last season.
Meanwhile, San Antonio will focus on a full-fledged rebuild with an added influx of draft picks.
